JHQ Charity Worskhop/Concert

On Saturday 31st May a small corner of JHQ was transformed into Scotland as over 30 pipers and drummers hijacked the Little Theatre.The kilt clad Celts were in Rheindahlen to take part in a workshop organised by RMP SSgt Craig Badley and JHQ Estate Manager SSgt Shorty Green.Scotsman Craig hails from the Isle of Lewis and is the founder ofJHQ Pipers who have been raising cash for the Army Benevolent Fund Germany for the best part of the year. Craig said, “The idea for the workshop is all centred around charity and we are fortunate enough to have contacts with 2 ex World Champions who offered to come over from Scotland to run a workshop to develop and promote piping and drumming. The proceeds from which will once again go to the ABF.”
The Scottish guests Bagpiper Craig Munro and Drummer Craig Lawrie and local tutors Pipe Major David Johnston and James Waugh have notched up 85 years experience and numerous Scottish, European and World Championships between the 4 of them. Their combined skill and knowledge was invaluable to everyone from the GOC’s Piper Dave Moir to the youngest member of the group 15 year old Adam Badley. The JHQ Pipers, the expert tutors and May McBain School of Dance concluded the successful workshop with an evening of Piping and Highland Dancing with group and solo performances. Following the performance Maj Gen Mungo Melvin GOC UKSC (G) drew the winning ticket for the prize set of bagpipes. Donated by Craig Munro Master Craftsman at Wallace Bagpipes of Glasgow. “The bagpipe donation was an incentive to get people her” said Craig Munro “But as it turned out the workshop was well attended and we had a full house for this evening’s performance.” “It’s been great,” continued Craig “And I’m pleased to have played a part supporting a military charity. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it and we’ve talked about coming back next year.”
